Why write a Will?

Die without having made a Will and you could be leaving significant financial problems for your loved ones. Unfortunately around 60% of UK adults are at risk of this, and it means your estate is shared out in a fixed way defined by the intestacy rules, which may not be as you wanted.

Making a Will is one of the things that many people put off, but a Will can be completed quickly and is relatively inexpensive to do.

Particular reasons why you need a Will?

  • You are married: You wish to pass on your wealth to your spouse and/or children.

  • You are not married: Your partner is unlikely to receive anything if you don't have a Will and could be left in a poor financial position.

  • You have dependent children: Without a Will which nominates a legal guardian, it is up to the courts to decide on your children's welfare. They also may not receive the money you wanted them to have and could be dis-inherited.

  • Your circumstances have changed: If you have written a Will before but have since remarried, divorced or had children then you should write a new Will and revoke the old one. Your existing Will may no longer be valid.

  • Funeral wishes: A Will can ensure that your wishes for your funeral arrangements are understood.

  • You wish to reduce inheritance tax: Many people do not think they are wealthy enough to pay inheritance tax, but if your estate is worth more than £325,000 then you should consider how to maximise the money you can pass onto your loved ones. A Will can make this happen.

  • You have no living relatives: The intestacy rules mean the Crown will receive all without a Will.

  • Charitable gifts: You wish to make a gift to charity.

Willwriting - how can we help?

Step 1

Our first initial appointment service is free and available either online, telephone, or by a home visit if you prefer. At the first meeting we will then ask you, about your wishes and preferences on death, including who are your beneficiaries. We will give you the advice and guidance you need to make these important decisions.

Step 2

An expert Willwriter now creates a draft Will. We talk you through in detail the content of the draft. We give you time to consider this, and you are still under no obligation to proceed.

Step 3

If you are happy with the draft Will, we will make arrangements for this to be properly signed and finalised so it is legally valid.
